In Japan November 22 is ‘the nice couple day’, or precisely ‘the nice married couple day’.  Because 11.22 can be pronounced ‘Ii fu-fu’ which means ‘good married couple’.

It is not a national holiday, but relatively well-known to people.  This day was established to deepen the love of married couples.  Generally speaking, Japanese men are too bashful to express their emotions especially affection.  There is a common story about Japanese old couples.  The story is that an old wife hears for the first time her husband say ‘I love you’ only before he or she dies.

Anyway, several meddlesome or kind groups hold events for couples on this day.  They are often such events as couples shout about their love toward their partner at a romantic location.  Those events can often be seen shortly in TV news.
