Traditional ideal Japanese woman, Yamato Nadeshiko

Japan won in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 held in Germany.  The whole nation was filled with a happy mood this week.  I guess this sense of joy was for the first time after 3.11 disasters for Japanese.

By the way, this Japanese national team is nicknamed ‘Nadeshiko Japan’  Nadeshiko means ‘traditional ideal Japanese woman’: patient, humble, and strong.  Thinking of their play, this nickname is perfect!

Nadeshiko‘ is also a flower’s name.  The image of an ideal woman must have come from this flower.  The English name is Dianthus.  I came across the charming ‘Nadeshiko‘ flowers in Kamakura.
