Lotus flower

Lotus flowers are regarded as a sacred flower in Buddhism.  Because they bloom beautifully in dirty water.  So they are a symbol of purity free from the secular world.  Buddha is often depicted on this flower.

In Japan its roots are often eaten in winter.  It is rich in Vitamin C.  Besides, it has traditionally been eaten so that we can have a wide outlook through the holes.
